Clay in the Hands of the Potter

Isaiah 64:6

"But now, O Lord,
You are our Father;
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand." (NKJV)

Jeremiah 18:4

"And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter;
so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make." (NKJV)

I love these verses because it is a perfect representation of the relationship between us and God when we submit our lives to Him. The verse in Jeremiah shows us that God has a plan and a design for our lives and when we come to Christ we are all marred vessels and when we submit to Him, we become a new creation as He molds us again into another vessel that is much better.

Ephesians 4:21-24
"if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." (NKJV)

That is what becoming a Christian is all about. It is surrendering your life to Christ so you can be used by Him and spend eternity with Him. But when we come to Him we are so prideful, arrogant and think we know everything. Everything is about us and our desires and wants. So when we submit to Christ, He scoops all that junk out of our lives just like a potter does when making a vase. His desire is to turn us into vessels that are filled with the fruits of the spirit (Gal 5:22,23):

love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control

It is then that God can work in us and through us.

So we need to allow God to mold us into the image of His son Jesus Christ so we can be used for His good purpose!
